Why Storybooks?
Creating a love of reading in children is potentially one of the most powerful ways of improving academic standards in school. Audio books can be an important part of this. I love reading stories, and as a full time Year One teacher, reading storybooks is an important aspect of my everyday practice.

"How do dinosaurs..." is one of those picture book series that captures the imagination of little boys and girl right from page one.
Not only are these colossal creatures always a hit with children, the scenarios they are put in sound very familiar to our little learners. They go to school, learn new things and are a bit stroppy from time to time.
This first book I will share with you is all about 'learning to read'. And in particular, how dinosaurs do it!

A Squash and A Squeeze a Classic Picture book by the award winning duo Julia Donaldson and Axel Sheffler.
This is definitely one of those books that belongs in everyone's Home library AND in the classroom! Not only does it teach a valuable lesson about being happy and thankful about your situation or the things you already posses.
It also introduces some great vocabulary for the younger learners. Some of the adjectives introduced are going to be new to the children and they will be able to use these to enrich their language and improve writing.
